The Oticon Intent replaces the Oticon Real as the company`s flagship product.
The Intent has 4 levels of technology with the Intent 1 being the top of the range.

So what is different about the Intent?

Building on the hugely successful Brain Hearing technology the Intent uses new 4D sensors to take hearing to the next level.
The sensors analyse the wearer`s Environment, Head Movement, Body Movement and Conversation Activity to more accurately help the wearer to focus more easily on the sounds of interest. 

In other words the aids use the information gained from head and body movement to more accurately focus on the sounds that wearer wants to hear while still giving access to  the 360 degree soundscape.

Compared to the previous model this has given the aids up to:
35% More access to speech cues,
15% More speech comprehension,
10% Better sound quality
13% More nuances in the sound scene
10% Higher Listening Comfort

Also with the Intent, Oticon debut a brand-new, second-generation Dynamic Neural Network (DNN 2.0), that delivers better sound quality, clearer speech, and more efficient noise control.

The artificial neural network in the aids has been programmed with an even greater diversity of sound samples than the 12 million sounds in previous models, further improving on Oticon`s proven Brain Hearing technology. This takes the Deep Neural Network sound processing to the next level.

This Artificial Neural Network is the fundamental difference between Oticon and other leading brands. Where most hearing aid manufacturers suppress all sounds in background noise apart from what they consider as the most "important" sounds to improve the signal to noise ratio making it more likely you will hear what you need to, the Oticon Intent gives the wearer clearer comprehension of all sounds around them without obvious suppression and present the sounds to the wearer in a way that is far more natural while also offering improved hearing in background noise.

In studies this has proved better for brain health as it gives the brain more information and stimulus and is much nearer the comprehension of natural hearing. As untreated hearing loss can have a serious negative effect on the brain this is a definite plus for Oticon above other hearing aid manufacturers.

Other improvements include a faster battery charging time, a double tap to answer telephone calls, future-proof connectivity to Android and Apple devices and MoreSound Amplifier 3.0 giving a fuller sound scene and a richer representation of the wearer`s environment.

The SuddenSound Stabilizer and the Wind & Handling Stabilizer are also still featured in this new model.
Oticon`s Wind and Handling Stabiliser as the name suggests greatly reduces wind and handling noise. This will be particularly useful for any hearing aid wearer that enjoy outdoor sports such as golf etc or walking especially in windy conditions and coastal areas.

So what does this mean for the wearer? 

The sound quality of the hearing aids is extremely natural - as it was in the previous model, but now with the 4D sensors giving far more information than before the performance in background noise is greatly improved.

They give so much detail! 

I have been wearing a pair of Intent 1s for the last few days as I always do when a new hearing aid is released.

My first observations were that not only is the sound quality extremely natural but the aids gave so much clear detail.

I found it easy to hold a conversation in background noise. The Intent has added an extra 2dB of noise reduction compared with the previous model. This added to the 4D sensors gives greatly improved performance in acoustically challenging social situations. The SuddenSound stabilizer gave a smooth sound experience and I heard well in background noise.

The Intent range are capable of 2 way audio streaming from iPhone 11 and upwards, iPad and some Android phones. This means that clarity for phone calls is crystal clear and a huge improvement over non-streamed calls. Also with the double tap feature you no no longer need to even take the phone out of your pocket to have a conversation.

The aids are remotely programmable through the free Companion App making fine tuning appointments possible without having to leave the comfort of your home. This app also acts as a remote control for the aids where you can adjust many aspects of the aids if you so wish.

If listening to Television is a struggle the optional TV streamer makes the whole experience of listening to TV audio extremely pleasant and immersive and is definitely worthwhile of consideration. 

To sum up - these are truly excellent hearing aids. The build quality is extremely high as we have come to expect with Oticon products and the aids are covered by a 5 year warranty.

My verdict: Probably the best on the market currently.
